Most companies offer some form of reimbursement for travel expenses, it's called a "per diem" for the less fancy folks amongst us. We aren't too familiar with company reimbursements but we are very familiar with corporate greed so this one hit close to home.
Redditor u/CinnamonBunBun posted to r/MaliciousCompliance about how their company allows up to $30.00 expensed per day while employees travel on behalf of the company, and a new group of rule-followers at their workplace rejected an expense that barely went over the limit — by $1.50, to be exact. For the malicious compliance, OP has elected to stick to expensing exactly $30.00 per day every time instead of not bothering to use the per diem at times.
Sometimes it just does not pay off to be the good guy, and the loss of a few extra bucks OP spent on food will do no harm to the big guys' pockets. Much to our dismay, the world is full of unreasonable bosses and ridiculous company policies.
